Types of Kegs in Europe: Euro, DIN, and Slim – What You Need to Know

In the European beverage industry, stainless steel kegs are the trusted standard for hygiene, durability, and sustainability. Among them, the most commonly used types of kegs are Euro Norm, DIN Norm, and Slim kegs, each with its own dimensions and typical use cases.

Euro Kegs (EURO NORM)

Widely used across Europe, Euro kegs have a diameter of 395 mm and typically come in 50L or 30L sizes. Made from AISI 304 stainless steel, they’re built to last and are ideal for high-volume environments like breweries, beverage producers, and large distribution setups.

DIN Kegs (DIN NORM)

DIN kegs are slightly narrower at Ø 363 mm, which makes them easier to handle while still offering 50L or 30L capacities. They’re especially popular in Germany, where they strike a good balance between volume and maneuverability, perfect for operations that value both capacity and ease of handling.

Slim Kegs

Slim kegs are more compact, with diameters of Ø 278 mm or 229 mm, and capacities ranging from 10L to 30L. They’re a great option for smaller venues, mobile bars, or for serving niche products like wine, kombucha, or craft beverages on tap. Their size makes storage and transport much easier, especially in tight or urban spaces.

The Keg of the Future: 20L Slim Keg

With more focus on worker safety, space-saving logistics, and ergonomics, the 20L slim keg is becoming the go-to format for many. It’s light, easy to lift, and helps reduce the risk of injury for those handling kegs every day. Plus, it’s perfect for flexible distribution, whether it’s urban delivery routes, pop-up bars, or events with limited space.

Not Sure How Many Kegs You Need?

Choosing the right type of keg is one thing, but figuring out how many you actually need can be a bit more complicated. That’s why we’ve built a simple Kegs Need Calculator. Just plug in a few details about your production and how often you fill, and it’ll help you estimate the number of kegs that make sense for your setup.
All of these kegs are reusable for over 20 years and 100% recyclable at end-of-life, a smart and sustainable choice for any beverage producer looking to reduce waste and invest in long-term solutions.
